Get Fit with Circuit Training
If you have been hibernating all winter, now is the time to start getting fit. And a good way to start is with circuit training.
If you are looking at ways of improving your fitness and general health, circuit training is a great place to start. The wonderful thing about circuit training is, there is a wide variety of equipment, therefore you wont easily tire or get bored of the exercises. It is also time efficient and safe, and the equipment user-friendly.
“If you are not highly motivated and dislike exercising by yourself, a circuit class is ideal for you as it is held in a highly motivated group environment with an instructor.”
People of all ages and various fitness levels can circuit train as it provides exercise in a non-threatening environment. Circuit training can also lead to more powerful workouts, like resistance-training programs, and is a great place to meet people and have fun while you get fit.
How it works
A circuit comprises of a number of stations (machines) that work different muscle groups. At each station, you perform a set of repetitions for 30-60 seconds at a medium-to-fast speed. Circuit equipment is usually arranged in a particular order so you work on your upper body at one station and lower body at the next station. This is called “shunting”.
If you are not highly motivated and dislike exercising by yourself, a circuit class is ideal for you as it is held in a highly motivated group environment with an instructor. Some gyms have their circuit operating constantly throughout the day and evening using a 30-60 second electronic timer. This is great for people who cant get to training when set classes are on.
