Befriend a veteran
CCNB is looking for kind, friendly locals to provide social support to war veterans in the area. The program aims to link socially isolated vets with fellow locals. This is a flexible opportunity, so anyone with spare time is encouraged to apply. CCNB believes kindness and community makes the difference in many people’s lives. Support a special Olympian
The Sydney Northern Beaches branch of Special Olympics is searching for coaches, sports coordinators, committee members and fundraising helpers to assist with weekly training sessions and regular competitions. The club supports people with an intellectual disability to be active and social through sport, offering opportunities in athletics, aquatics, basketball, bocce, dance, golf, tennis, and tenpin bowling. Time commitment varies depending on the role, ranging from a few hours per month to one hour per week. Assist native wildlife
Support the incredible work local service Sydney Wildlife do to rescue and rehabilitate injured native animals by becoming a Wildlife Rescue Hotline Operator. You will take calls from people who have found an animal requiring assistance and organise a rescuer to be dispatched. This position can be undertaken from your home during one of two daily shifts, between 9am – 1pm or 1pm – 5pm. All training will be provided from an experienced carer. Applicants will need access to a computer, internet connection and a phone. Save the orangutans
The Orangutan Project
Be an environmental crusader and volunteer to raise funds and awareness for the conservation of critically endangered orangutans and the Borneo rainforest. The Orangutan Project is looking for a regional representative to help set up and manage a new Northern Beaches fundraising team. Reporting to the volunteers fundraising manager, you will be responsible for team management, fundraising and event coordination. You must be passionate about the environment, particularly about saving orangutans, a proactive self-starter, and an excellent communicator. The regional representative will be needed approximately 12 to 20 hours per month, usually on weekends with some evening events. A valid driver’s licence and a vehicle are required. Help regenerate our bushland
Eager to get outdoors this summer and give back to your community at the same time? Bushcare is calling out for community volunteers interested in working to conserve and rehabilitate publicly-owned natural bushland. There are over 60 different sites across the Northern Beaches cared for by volunteers, including bushland in Terrey Hills, Duffys Forest, Warriewood, Elanora, Mona Vale, Bayview, Newport, Avalon, Whale Beach and Palm Beach. Groups usually meet for two to three hours per month, mostly on weekends, and all tools are provided. No experience is required, as experienced supervisors provide new volunteers with all necessary training and guidance in bush regeneration techniques and plant identification.
