Taronga launches sustainable future
Taronga Zoo has launched an ambitious plan to reach net-zero emissions by 2030.
The zoo, a favourite of North Shore locals and people from all over Sydney, has committed to reducing carbon emissions by 70 per cent through usage of electric vehicles and by reducing emissions related to its supply chain.
Member for North Shore, Felicity Wilson, commended Taronga Zoo on the target while attending the zoo’s reopening after the Sydney lockdown.
“I know we’ve missed Taronga, and Taronga has missed us,” Felicity Wilson said.
“What an exciting day to talk about the net-zero commitment of Taronga.
“Taronga has always been a leader in conservation, protecting our wildlife, and playing a role in our broader society in ensuring that what we all do as a community is to put the environment first.”
Taronga Zoo has launched its 2021-2025 Sustainability Strategy, which commits to reaching net-zero by 2030 and being powered by 100% renewable energy.
