New wombat crossings to improve safety
Six new wombat crossings were recently constructed by Willoughby City Council.
These new crossings are located at Keary Street, Willoughby; Kirk Street, Chatswood; Hatfield Street, Lane Cove West; and Hampden Road, Artarmon.
The works were completed by a contractor in just ten days, despite challenges like increased traffic and inclement weather.
The crossing at Keary Street, near Willoughby Public School, was completed in just one day.
Wombat crossings, as opposed to regular pedestrian crossings, are built at a raised angle to allow for better visibility for drivers to assess pedestrian activity and oncoming traffic.
