Freshen up your fitness routine
Can’t seem to muster up the motivation to stick to your New Year’s resolutions? You might be needing a fresh injection of variety into your fitness routine. Luckily, the North Shore is offering up plenty of free (or affordable) group fitness classes for all ages and ability levels this month.
The Coal Loader, Waverton
Free, every Wednesday at 7am-8am
Every Wednesday morning throughout April the Coal Loader Platform will transform into a stunning waterfront fitness venue, with a fantastic array of classes on offer. Take in the breath-taking views from Balls Head Reserve while doing the downward dog or find your zen in tai-chi. Other classes available through the month include pilates, meditation, and strength training, meaning there’s something for everyone and for all fitness levels. The best part? It’s completely free for locals. Bring along a mat, a positive attitude, and your Keep-Cup to grab coffee at one of the excellent cafés nearby. Bookings are essential. Visit the North Sydney Council website for more information.
North Shore Running & Fitness Run Club
Cammeray and Lane Cove North
Free, every Saturday morning at 6:30am
Rain, hail or shine, every Saturday morning is a chance to level up your fitness while meeting other likeminded folks with the North Shore Running & Fitness Club! The Run Club meets every Saturday at 6:30am at two locations on the lower North Shore. There are three different groups for varying fitness levels, including long runs (15km+) for more advanced runners starting at 6.30am, medium runs (6-15km) at 6.45am, and short runs (up to 6km) at 7am. After the run, you’ll get the opportunity to socialise with your run buddies over coffee and brekkie at one of the many great cafés in the chosen suburb. Visit the North Shore Running & Fitness website for more details.
Mosman, Cammeray, Castlecrag and more.
Free, Fridays at 6am
If you’re a reasonably fit cyclist looking to meet new people and explore extraordinary routes across Sydney’s North Shore, Cammeray Roadies may be the team for you. The group was founded in 2013 to create an exciting, passionate and warm community of local ‘roadies’ across the North Shore, comprising cyclists of all backgrounds and abilities. Regular club rides are held every Friday at 6am. The weekly rides, affectionately termed ‘coffee rides’ due to their 30km length and social nature, can be joined in addition to scheduled Tuesday and Saturday rides if you’re up for more of a challenge. Head to the Cammeray Roadies website and the Facebook group to kickstart your membership.
North Sydney, Mosman and Willoughby
Free, every Saturday at 7am
Get your heart rate up at Park Run – a fun, friendly community-run event held every Saturday morning at 7am. Park Run takes place at varied locations across the North Shore, including St Leonards Park in North Sydney, Artarmon Reserve in Willoughby, or Spit West Reserve in Mosman. To sweeten the deal, join your fellow runners (or walkers, if that’s your thing) at the chosen local café for a post-run coffee.
