Northern Beaches Hospital Road Upgrade

The NSW Government has completed upgrading roads around the Northern Beaches Hospital increasing capacity on the road network and improving access through the area.

Project milestones

After receiving planning approval in June 2015, early investigation work for the project started in August
2015. Stage 1 construction commenced in November 2015, which involved providing essential access to the Northern Beaches Hospital. This included the widening and upgrade of Frenchs Forest Road East and West, Allambie Road, Wakehurst Parkway, Naree Road and Forest Way, and Warringah Road eastbound and westbound surface lanes. Stage 1 was completed prior to the opening of the Northern Beaches Hospital in October 2018.

Stage 2 of the project saw the construction of the centerpiece of the Warringah Road widening project – the 1.3 kilometre long open-air underpass. The four lane underpass – two lanes in each direction – takes motorists under the three signalised intersections at Forest Way, Hilmer Street and the Wakehurst Parkway – effectively bypassing Frenchs Forest. The Warringah Road underpass opened to traffic in March 2020.

During the construction of this project we have had the privilege to meet and get to know many residents and community members personally and we appreciate your participation and involvement. Transport for New South Wales would like to thank everyone for their cooperation, support and understanding while this important piece of infrastructure was constructed.
