What businesses need to know to stay ahead
The single most important factor driving consumer trends will be the rise of mobile internet smartphone technology, says Craig Rispin.
Boom in mobile internet shopping
Mobile shopping is going to be even bigger than laptop or desktop internet shopping is today. Today's smartphone in your pocket is faster than a laptop was just a few years ago. If this trend continues, computers and mobiles will become so cheap and powerful we'll just clip them on like jewellery.
Instead of going out and buying a TV for ourselves, through mobile technology and social networking we'll be able to instantly check if there's anyone else who wants to buy it too. We might discover 100 or 1000 people who want to buy it, which will allow us to negotiate a better rate.
Transparency through technology
Through mobile internet technology, we'll be able to look up any product or service and check such things as its supply chain, the commissions or financial agreements, and how much it cost to build, for example.
How businessess will survive
As the world becomes more high tech, people will start asking for a more 'high touch', or personal , experience. It's been foundthat if you offer personal service, people will feel obliged to buy from you. Apple is a great example of this. A lot of people were buying from the online store but, when they opened the Apple retail stores where they offer fantastic personal service, that's when their sales really took off.
If you run a business, you need to take time out to see what's coming over the horizon. Go to a website like ted.com where there are hundreds of videos discussing new ideas and how the world is changing.
