Eight years after he won Australia's Got Talent and stole Australia’s heart Mark went on to record seven chart-topping albums with worldwide sales exceeding half a million units by the age of 20, Mark Vincent has set a new benchmark: a ‘virtual duet’ with Mario Lanza that form part of the tour. The shows will feature a beautifully crafted set list performed with band and strings pulling from the album, and Mark’s distinguished catalogue.
Mark sings alongside Mario in ‘Because You’re Mine,’ one of the legendary movie star’s biggest hits. Re-mastered and re-edited, the song, taken from the MGM musical of the same name, is given a fresh and brilliant new dynamic with the addition of Mark’s rich tenor tones.
“It’s an amazing thrill to be singing with the greatest tenor of his time,” Mark says, “I feel, in a humble way, I am simpatico with him. We were both brought up in Italian families - he was raised in Philadelphia - where there was a lot of love, but also a lot of hard times. That seems to go with the territory. As a kid, Caruso performed in cafes, singing Neapolitan favourites. I sang for patrons at my grandfather Bruno’s pizza restaurant from the age of ten. For tenors, apparently, it’s never too soon to start!”
After debuting at No. 1 on the ARIA Classical Charts and Top 5 on the National ARIA Album Chart, A Tribute to Mario Lanza continues to make impact on the Australian music scene. According to ARIA, “Mark Vincent is the highest selling and charting Classical Crossover Artist in ARIA Chart History”.
Mark’s seventh and most recent album Together, a duet album with Marina Prior, was released in April 2016 and debuted on the Australian Album Chart at #5, and #1 on the Classical Chart. Mark and Marina then topped it up with a triumphant national tour.
In 2014 Mark made his music theatre debut in the Australian production of Dirty Dancing, which played 130 shows around the country. And in 2016, the legendary star, Dame Julie Andrews chose Mark to play the role of Freddy, in My Fair Lady which broke box office records in Sydney and played to full houses all over the country.
The album is the first tribute to Mario Lanza to be recorded by an Australian tenor, and has the imprimatur of his daughter, Ellisa Lanza Bregman, who said, ‘Mark Vincent, I wish you every success and I know that this unique recording will be sought after and cherished by music lovers everywhere.’
Mark will perform with a 20-piece orchestra to be conducted by one of Australia’s most versatile conductors and musical entertainers, Guy Noble.
