North Fort played a major role in the Defence Of Sydney. This once active army base, chosen for its location at the entrance to Sydney Harbour was part of a coastal defence system stretching over 300 kms. The 9.2 inch guns which once stood in the imposing emplacements at North Fort had a firing range of 26kms and 9 soldiers were required to fire the gun.
