This gave him a great foundation to progress into opening his own home renovation business where he project manage custom kitchen, bathroom and laundry renovations, along with custom cabinetry projects.
Harry has a unique combination of design experience and cabinet making experience
Harry’s background is in the design aspect of renovation, though he is trained in and has experience in the labour component as well. Within home design, Harry decided to specialise in kitchens for one simple reason. He loves designing and building kitchens.
Harry completed TAFE and is a licensed tradesman. The kitchen part of his study really resonated which is why he has followed this direction.
Harry started his business in 2002 and during the early years gained experience in every aspect of his business.
As the business has grown and continues to grow, Harry focuses on closely managing his team of tradesmen, while taking care of business operations and project management.
Originally the name of the business was Designer Space and Colour Solutions. Harry did a lot of design work in the early days, mainly designing kitchens and sometimes doing the labour for the jobs.
During the start-up phase of the business, Harry did whatever work he could to build the business. “I was still working for other people at the same time, trying to pay bills. I was doing consultations and things like that” says Harry.
The business soon kicked-off and developed into Designer Space Kitchens & Joinery in 2010. That’s when the business started focusing on building kitchens and doing other home renovations.
Harry’s design background is reflected in the detail of the initial quoting and design phase, which is sometimes missing from other businesses.

Two popular kitchen renovation styles and why they are a good choice for your home
A structural renovation to your home is a major project. Some design trends come and go or are only appealing to a certain niche demographic.
Being smart with your design choices can help you achieve a better sale or rental price for your property when the time comes for you to move on.
The design you choose for your kitchen, bathroom or laundry is something that you’ll want to stand the test of time.
Harry, the owner of Designer Space Kitchens & Joinery, has seen some consistent trends in design over the past decade, which continue to keep going strong today.
Hamptons Style Kitchen
When it comes to kitchens, one style that the market has been inspired by is a design trend that hails from New York.
This is called the Hamptons style of kitchens, which originated in an upmarket seaside area on Long Island, New York called The Hamptons.
“We get a lot of requests for the Hamptons style kitchen” says Harry.
The Hamptons style has an older feel to it which is offset with very modern accessories. In other words, this style takes some inspiration from the old and mixes it with the new. This principle is what gives the Hamptons style it’s timeless look and feel.
The modern aspects include internals like soft closing doors, modern bins that pull out from drawers, under-mounted sinks, modern tapware and appliances and integrated fridges.
To help you visualise this style, browse the photos in the St Ives gallery above.
This St Ives project is a very basic Hamptons style, and there are different variations you can do with the finishes such as the splash back. This particular Hamptons style kitchen has a subway tile splash back and decorative moulding around the rangehood, along with modern appliances.
The Hamptons style originally started in America around the 30s and 40s and has remained popular over the decades.
Modern Style Kitchen
Another popular kitchen design style is modern. You can become more familiar with this style by browsing the photos in the Clontarf gallery above for an example of modern design.
Modern takes a minimalistic approach to design. The Clontarf project is very sleek, the cabinets have no handles. Modern is all about using very neutral tones, and clean and sleek line and therefore it retains its modern look for a long time.
When you install a Modern style kitchen in your home, after a couple of decades you may simply want to update the old flooring or other minor details to instantly refresh the look to be in keeping with the times.
The reason for the popularity of the Hamptons style and Modern style of kitchen is due to their minimalist and timeless approach to design, which makes them easily adaptable to match any time period.
If you’re interested in a stylish look that will continue to look contemporary for years to come, consider installing a Hamptons style or Modern kitchen in your home.
