Dental Care for Children
At Frenchs Forest Dental on the Northern Beaches we like to see children at around 4 years of age so they are used to going to the dentist prior to needing treatment.
There is nothing worse for the child, parent and the dentist than treating a child after a trauma or with a toothache when they have not been to the dentist before and are in pain.
We are great believers in fissure sealants for permanent molar teeth. These are tooth coloured plastic fillings placed in the top of the molar teeth to prevent food impaction and decay in 6 year and 12 year teeth. This is like putting grouting between tiles and has the same effect.
Early orthodontic treatment can shorten or prevent the need for later orthodontic treatment by expanding the jaws to create room for permanent teeth or correct skeletal malformations.
Expanding the upper jaw can open up the sinuses and can help to improve breathing, especially at night when snoring is an indicator of blocked airways and a preventer of R.E.M (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep which has a detrimental effect on behaviour.
